Our story

The Story Behind the Practice

The Center for Family and Marriage Therapy was founded by Dr. Karen Muhammad, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with decades of experience supporting diverse families across New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Michigan, and Canada. What began as a private practice rooted in community care has grown into a multidisciplinary team of dedicated clinicians.

We specialize in evidence-based approaches — including the Gottman Method, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Brainspotting, and Bowen Family Systems Theory — tailored to meet each client where they are. Our team includes bilingual therapists fluent in Spanish, ensuring that Hispanic and Latino families receive culturally affirming care in their preferred language.
